On the Shawangunk Mountains
behind the Correctional Facility,
I trip on boulders I cannot see
in low luxurious slanting sunlight.
Bruise-kneed, again
and again I get back up,
giddy on freedom
and the tinsel dazzle
of New Year’s sunbeams.
